Too much lovin', too much likker, too much law-breakin'!
Whether it's the moonshine or a madman, This Stuff'll Kill Ya! (1971) Roscoe Boone (Jeffrey Allen from Two Thousand Maniacs!) is hootin' and hollerin' and altogether bogus preacher of a liquor-makin’ church that worships White Lightnin’: "I shall drink to the Spirit of the Lord!" But when two Federal Agents threaten to bust up Boone’s business, a series of gruesome murders occur-- such as one young lady gets stoned to death, and two sexy tourists wind up crucified! It all comes to a head-splattering climax in this twisted mix of horror and hillbillies from cult director Herschell Gordon Lewis (Blood Feast), featuring Larry Drake of Darkman and the final screen appearance of Hollywood veteran Tim (Treasure of the Sierra Madre) Holt!
Politics go corn pone when three "Technical Advisors" choose country-western crooner Hank Jackson (singer Claude King) as their candidate for Senate: "People want simpler times...Yeah, they're yahoos, but this is The Year of The Yahoo! (1972)" What follows is a campaign of clever commercials and scripted "spontaneity" but utterly no substance. But when Hank’s girlfriend accurately accuses him of selling out, his backers shut her up by having her attacked...A rarity once feared "lost", The Year of the Yahoo! is smart, cynical, music-filled exploitation and one of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ best!
